BaoBao 包宝 in Chinese translates to “wrapped treasure”, or in our case, dumplings (jiaozi 饺子), served in a historic townhouse in Portland’s West End.  We offer Asian inspired comfort food, designed to satisfy both the midnight foodie, or discerning dinner diner.  Our core menu is supplemented with ever-changing daily specials and a wide variety of teas, beers, wines and specialty cocktails.

BaoBao is the second restaurant from award-winning Executive Chef Cara Stadler and her mother, Cecile.  It was inspired by a childhood of sitting around the kitchen table bao’ing dumplings; as well as the many jiaozi guans we frequented in China.  The idea was to provide a place where you can come in for a snack or full meal, any time of day, and always have something delicious to eat.  BaoBao has something for everyone, from children to gourmands.  Open five days a week from 11:30 am until late, BaoBao’s “wrapped treasures” are guaranteed to delight!

    • Shanghai soup dumplings are not a regular item on the menu, but we do make them as a special, and will probably offer them with we start Dim Dum Sundays… Stay tuned.

    • Hey there Kris! We have one vegan dumpling on our menu and it is always rotating. Currently it is a rice with black beans, peanuts, ginger, soy and and scallion. You can also find vegan options in the “cold dish” section such as our Asain slaw and smashed cucumbers!

    • We use no MSG in any of our food.
The only possible exception is if it is present in some sauce base, but we try not to use such products.

  1. Hi Carrie & Co.,
My cousin and I came in last night for a meal and were delighted by what we found! Our cold dish was the soaked peanuts. Yum! Then we had four orders of dumplings, the chrysanthemum tea and each had the chocolate mousse. Where to begin? We were completely enchanted by the presentation, taste and mouth-feel of everything we ordered. Each bite of our new dumpling dishes had us exclaiming with delight. We loved how the fare arrived at the table when it was hot and ready and kept the surprises coming. We ordered the chrysanthemum tea out of curiosity and found it subtle and exquisite. We see why you are award winning. The chocolate mousse, nestled deep in the glass bowl, allowed ample room for the varied and perfect garnishes. It was creamy and deeply flavored, served with a slice of orange, a hand crafted chocolate leaf, coconut-cream whipped cream, coconut shreds, perfectly uniform and crunchy chocolate cookie crumbs, and the piece de la resistance, a prized hazelnut, covered with caramelized sugar, with a “handle” which made it look like a caramel comet, streaming right into perfection. We love your innovation, and your hours. Though 2016 has barely begun, we’re sure this will go down as one of the best nights of the year. We will be back. Thank you.
